Seriously! Creativity runs in our veins. I thought to make a small journey into the origins and future of the creativity running in my family.
Let’s take a look at my family: my siblings are both, quite seriously, into music. They are engineers but both are strongly into classical baroque music. They both play organ really good, my sister is as well very creative in handcrafting.
I would love to feature her softy dolls someday, they are awesome!! Perfect caricatures of relevant people or characters made into softies!
My mother is dress-maker since decades, and as long as I can remember, she’s been handcrafting with any material at hand, also for a time she was doing oil painting. Give her a brush and paint, and she can do wonders! She can draw quite good as well, though she denies it. And also making creative decoration for home, with fabrics, cardboard, glue, paper, etc. Imagination runs free! I do need some photos of the different things she had made.
My father carries music on his veins as well. He has always been singing at home (nothing professional at all, but does it very well). He plays a bit of guitar, or the Venezuelan national instrument “Cuatro” (4 strings, smaller than a guitar).
Through my ancestors, on my mother’s side, there is history written, real history, one of them is a recognized academic composer-musician in Venezuela musical history. I bet also into arts there might have been someone!
Now the next generation, from Javier’s -my son- point of view, his father is as well is into music, and he is graphic designer too. I don’t know if there is artists or musicians in his family history. It could very well be.
So from this interesting mix of genes, Javi has started to show his true abilities. Since several years he’s been interested into drawing japanese manga or anime figures, but it has been on the latest months that he has gotten it more seriously.
He even has started to managing the possibility to study something related to it as a profession. We’ve been looking for information on Graphic Design, Arts, but Illustration has been the most “for him” subject we’ve found. Let’s see how his wishes develop.
Also in the latest months he has started to show his musical vein. He has surprised us with a hidden ability, he started to play guitar more seriously! Recently started music at school as well, which is a good step to start with. At home he is quite often playing some tunes out of Anime stories he is currently watching.

On the other hand, Matthias also has a very creative-artistic-crafting vein, of course he is photographer. You can check here in his blog, how he made the photo from Javi above.
Matt as well has a good musical taste, and he is very detail-crafty. His father is Architect, who used to make more art in his youth when he was studying. Maybe when he retires we will see more art from him (I wish to!).
Back to Matthias, he used to build train models on his spare time, and on the second smaller scale possible in this craft. It is awesome how his models look so incredible real. Matthias grandparents are as well very creative. One of his grandparents was who got him into Train Models. Matt told me once, that until not long ago his “Opa” used to have his basement a big model Railroad scenary.
Both Grandmothers are very crafty as well. One of them is until today, with her 84 years old, still knitting and crocheting for the whole family!
I really wonder how our children will develop their creative roots.

I absolutely <3 this post and had no idea your sister made such awesome dolls – and even less idea about your son's skills! (Had no idea he was an otaku either, yay). It is awesome to know that there are whole families who are artistic and encourage each other with inspiration through their different types of art
Ohh you knew about my mom… and about Javi I think you knew since a little kid he was all the time drawing..
about my sister you have to see the things she makes.. hehe.. (apart from Music.. field where she is now walking pretty straight forward!)
wow he really improved his skills, specially since his firsts attempts to draw Pikachu (remember? xD)
